NATO has sent alerts to all NATO members regarding the Russian nuclear-powered submarine K-329 Belgorod, which is on the move. The submarine carries Poseidon nuclear torpedoes (aka Status-6), known as the “Weapon of the Apocalypse“. This was reported by the Italian daily newspaper “La Repubblica”.
The new submarine was deployed in July and is currently in Arctic waters after the Nord Stream pipeline blast.
NATO’s fears relate to a possible test of the Poseidon torpedo, which can swim up to 10,000 km underwater and explode near shore, causing a huge radioactive tsunami up to 500 meters high.
US experts are concerned that the US will not be able to defend itself against an attack by the Russian nuclear super torpedo. It can hardly be found, and even if it is, stopping it will be even more difficult. Virtually all cities and military bases along the Atlantic and Pacific coasts are at risk. This attack would instantly destroy the majority of the population, and the secondary, no less devastating, consequences are tsunami waves and lethal levels of radiation.
US experts believe that Poseidon was not intended for an attack, but a weapon that warned of terrible retribution. The Russian super torpedo is considered a secondary strike weapon in the hierarchy. Its main task is a strong psychological impact on the potential enemy, since in the event of an attack on Russia, an unstoppable nuclear apocalypse with incredible consequences can follow.
The United States has activated its network of satellites to track the torpedo’s eventual course, but the fact that it is underwater always complicates the task, the Italian edition said.
Poseidon (Status-6) is a Russian development of a dual-purpose weapon system designed to destroy and inflict unacceptable damage on naval bases, infrastructure and economies in a potential adversary’s coastal zone, creating extensive areas of radioactive contamination critical to any military, long-term private or economic activity is inappropriate or downright deadly.
Poseidon is a mega torpedo nuclear weapon with a range of 10,000 km, a speed of 185 km/h, capable of traveling at depths of up to 1,000 meters and a diameter of 1.6 meters. The nuclear warhead has a power of up to 100 megatons.
The Poseidon (Russian: Посейдон, “Poseidon”, NATO reporting name Kanyon), previously known by Russian codename Status-6 (Russian: Статус-6), is an autonomous, nuclear-powered, and nuclear-armed unmanned underwater vehicle under development by Rubin Design Bureau, capable of delivering both conventional and nuclear payloads. The Poseidon is one of the six new Russian strategic weapons announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on 1 March 2018. On 2 February 2019, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced completion of the key stage of trials of Poseidon. On 20 February 2019, the Russian Defence Ministry released a video, showing a Poseidon being test-launched by a B-90 Sarov special purpose submarine. The
United States is afraid of is not the name of the “Poseidon” nuclear torpedo, the sea king, but the great power of “Poseidon.” Capable of devastating a huge stretch of coastline with a multi-megaton (up to 100 Megaton, or 4 times Tsar Bomba) warhead, the Poseidon 2M39 torpedo would set off a chain of deadly radioactive tsunamis that would smash into towns and cities leaving them uninhabitable for decades. Military experts that two Poseidon could destroy the hole USA.
According to some reports, the Poseidon may also have a seabed or mobile site launch option. In the seabed option, known as Skif, Poseidon can wait on the seafloor in a special container for as long as necessary.
